#1 selling text with great explanations and just enough anatomy!

Clear explanations and a solid learning framework have been market tested and refined. Fox helps students master the fundamentals by providing appropriate anatomical detail.

Human Physiology, Thirteenth Edition, is intended for the one-semester Human Physiology course often taken by allied health and biology students. The beginning chapters introduce basic chemical and biological concepts to provide students with the framework they need to comprehend physiological principles. The chapters that follow promote conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization of facts. Health applications are included throughout the book to heighten interest, deepen understanding of physiological concepts, and help students relate the material to their individual career goals. Every effort has been made to help students integrate related concepts and understand the relationships between anatomical structures and their functions.

Users who purchase Connect Plus receive access to the full online ebook version of the textbook.

New Features

  • Checkpoint Questions are now numbered to coincide with Learning Outcomes at the beginning of the chapter.
  • Clinical Investigations have corresponding question in Connect. Students are alerted to this in the text.
  • Revisions and Content Updates Throughout – Content in every chapter has been updated where appropriate to keep the text current with the latest research, and new findings have been incorporated.
  • Anatomy and Physiology Revealed (APR) online ?APR Icons are found on many figures within the text alerting students to the fact that there is as corresponding figure found in APR 3.0!
  • Learn Smart -- the only truly adaptive learning system that intelligently identifies course content students have not yet mastered and maps out personalized study plans for their success. Unlike static flashcards or rote memorization, LearnSmart ensures your students have mastered course concepts before taking the exam, thereby saving you time and increasing student success.

Key Features

  • Clinical Investigations – Clinical Investigations emphasise the terms and concepts presented in the clinical scenarios. In addition to the solutions to the investigations at the end of each chapter, students now can examine these clinical scenarios event further by accessing the expanded versions available via CONNECT online. The expanded versions are written by an MD, who has collaborated with Stuart Fox to present the best possible combination of physiology educational material and clinical applications.
  • Active Learning ? Fox encourages active learning with its ?Section Previews? and end of section ?Check Point? questions. This gives the student immediate reinforcement whether or not they have grasped the concept at hand. Plus the ?Interactions? feature provides students an overview of how different body systems interact and guides them to related topics elsewhere in the book.
  • Clinical and Fitness Applications boxes ? These boxes found in each chapter help students understand physiological concepts through medical and exercise applications.
  • Real-World Applications ? Fox offers true conceptual understanding of human physiology by giving concrete real-life examples. Clinical information is presented throughout the text with ?Clinical Investigations, Boxed Clinical Applications, and Boxed Fitness Applications.?
  • A unique problem set – “Test Your Quantitative Ability” – accompanies each end-of-chapter review, giving students the opportunity to quantitatively apply what they have learned.
  • Clinical Investigations, brief case studies at the beginning of the chapters, present fascinating real-life scenarios. Clues to solving the case are given along the way, as each relevant piece of information is presented. Case solutions are provided at the end of each chapter.
  • Learning outcomes introduce each major chapter section, and “Check Point” questions assess whether outcomes have been met.
